Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Morocco Chess Week (MCW) aims to promote the game of Chess to both young and old, from all backgrounds and skill levels, capitalizing on the renewed interest in the game to celebrate its popularity and diverse aspects.
Since its launch in 2021, initiated by Casablanca Events & Animation and the Casablanca Stock Exchange, this festival has seen the participation of renowned figures from the Chess world, including representatives from the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and both international and national Grandmasters. For the year 2024, the 3rd edition is organized in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Chess Federation and has been renamed Morocco Chess Week (MCW).
Casablanca Chess - The Tournament
The Casablanca Chess tournament is a high-level competition that will illuminate the week-long celebration of the FIDE centenary. Organized according to the rules of "the Casablanca variant," an innovative variant designed to celebrate the history of chess, this tournament promises a unique experience, honoring the rich history of the game.
Four distinguished players, representing each continent, will face off in a world-class duel: Vishy Anand for Asia, Bassem Amin for Africa, Hikaru Nakamura for the Americas, and Magnus Carlsen for Europe.
Casablanca FIDE 100
The 2024 edition of Morocco Chess Week holds special significance with the theme of Casablanca FIDE 100. This year indeed marks the centenary of FIDE (International Chess Federation), and Casablanca has been selected as the African city for the celebrations.
This special edition promises to be exceptional, combining the passion for the game with the commemoration of a century of international chess history.
This celebration will host the Torch ceremony, which travels around the world throughout the year. On this occasion, a significant event will be organized at the Parc de la Ligue Arabe with several enriching activities for the general public, including a Simultaneous exhibition with 100 players.
